In order to work towards our collective liberation, we must understand intersectional justice. Liberated Kids is against all forms of oppression: adultism, racism, sexism, heterosexism, ableism, transgender discrimination, religious discrimination, and other forms of oppression. We understand that while SDE naturally alleviates young people from adultism, we must make conscious efforts to fight against all the forms of oppression.

Working towards our collective liberation, Liberated Kids holds the following core processes:

  • Decoloniziation is the process of becoming aware of the ideologies of superiority and priviledge of White civilization and approaches. It is the process of examining these ideologies and unlearning them. Decolonization involves the dismantling of and/or the disengaging from the structures and institutions that uphold these ideologies.

At Liberated Kids, we are decolonizing in so many ways, such as:

    • Removing our children from the school system.

    • Unlearning what schools taught us about what education and learning look like.

    • Examining the oppressive practices of conventional schooling.

    • Untethering ourselves from the capitalistic mindset.

    • Providing decolonized resources and offerings that represent our diversity.

  • We come from different backgrounds, but we believe that we have much to gain from the indigenous communities around the world so a natural way of learning and being can re-emerge.

At Liberated Kids, we are putting indigenous wisdom into action, such as:

    • Organizing in a multi-age community, instead of age-segregation.

    • Providing children ample time to explore and play without interference.

    • Relating with the natural world in the spirit of interdependence.

    • Making decisions in community.

    • Raising our children collectively as a village, without an institution.

  • We learn from indigenous wisdom, and we realize that we are in a world that is rapidly changing. We are bombarded with more advertisements and propaganda than we even realize. New technologies are popping up almost daily. Social media is changing the way we connect with each other. Racial injustice and discrimination against the LGBTQ+ community is explicitly rearing its ugly head. The earth is in peril as we are in the midst of climate chaos.

We must chart new paths forward. We don't know what the world will look in 10 years.

We realize that young people must be able to confront the ever-changing realities of our world. We also realize that we need to trust young people to find their way.

At Liberated Kids, we support young people to develop skills that enable them to navigate and impact their world and create new paths forward, such as:

    • Critical Thinking

    • Open-mindedness

    • Creativity

    • Curiosity

    • Collaboration

    • Agency

    • Sense of responsibility

    • Radical love

    • Self-Awareness
